Groupage

What is LCL groupage?

LCL stands for “Less than Container Load”. Your goods share a container with other shippers’ cargo. You only pay for the space you actually use, which makes sea freight affordable from 1 m³.

Is there a minimum volume?

The minimum charge is 1 m³ (or 1 tonne). Below that you pay the minimum, which is often far cheaper than express for a few heavy boxes.

How should I pack my goods?

Strong, sealed cartons and shrink-wrapped pallets where possible, with every package labelled with your name and the total number of packages. We send you a packing guide with your quote.

What can’t you ship?

Undeclared dangerous goods, illegal or counterfeit products, protected species, weapons and temperature-controlled perishables. If in doubt, describe your product to us before shipping.

Prices and payment

How is the price calculated?

Freight is charged per revenue ton: the greater of the volume in m³ and the weight in tonnes. Pickup, delivery, customs clearance and insurance are added as you need them.

Are customs duties included?

No. Import duties and VAT depend on the nature of your goods. We work them out with you and can advance them on your behalf.

When and how do I pay?

Payment terms are stated on your quote. Duties and taxes are passed on at cost, with supporting documents.

Customs and documents

Which documents do I need to provide?

At least a commercial invoice and a packing list. Importing into France requires an EORI number; exporting from India requires your supplier to hold an IEC code. We guide you through the rest.

I don’t have an EORI number. Is that a problem?

No. An EORI number is free and can be requested online from French customs, usually within a few days. We explain how when you request a quote.

Lead times, tracking and insurance

How long does shipping take?

Allow 30 to 40 days door to door on average, depending on ports, sailings and customs formalities. We give you a precise lead time with your quote.

How do I track my shipment?

Once your booking is confirmed you receive a tracking number. The Tracking page shows every step: pickup, warehouse, sailing, arrival, customs and delivery.

Is insurance mandatory?

No, but we strongly recommend it. A sea carrier’s legal liability is limited and often covers only a fraction of the real value. Our ad valorem cover pays out on the declared value.

Got a shipment to plan?

Describe it in two minutes and we will come back to you with a detailed quote.
